The Madison Research Corporation has won a $23.4 million US Army Foreign Military Sales contract to Taiwan for hundreds of rocket motors, warheads and other equipment for its Chaparral air missile system, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The components included 450 thermal batteries, 466 rocket motors, 150 safety and arming devices and 248 warheads for the Chaparral air missile system, the Defense Department said on Friday.

Aging US-supplied Chaparral missiles are carried on Taiwan’s Lafayette-class frigates.

The MIM-72A/M48 Chaparral is an American self-propelled surface-to-air missile system that is based on the earlier AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missile system.
