White House Claims Cybersecurity Will Be Challenge for Next US Administration

Protecting the security of US cyber infrastructure will be an ongoing challenge for the new president and his administration, White House spokesman Eric Schultz said in a briefing on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Schultz made the comment in response to a question about whether the White House is concerned the next administration will not take action concerning the alleged Russian interference in the US 2016 presidential election, given that President-elect Donald Trump has expressed willingness to cooperate with Russia on a range of issues.

"There was a report issued last week, looking at cybersecurity infrastructure around the United States," Schultz stated. "There's a whole host of recommendations in that report that will not be implemented in the next 45 days. That will be a challenge for the next administration."

Earlier on Friday, outgoing President Barack Obama ordered a full review of alleged hacking activities in last month’s presidential election before he leaves office on January 20.

Seven Democrats from the US House of Representatives wrote Obama on Tuesday to request a classified briefing on the details of the alleged Russian interference in the election.

Russia has denied US officials’ claims that it has tried to meddle in the US election. Russian officials have called the allegations absurd and an attempt to distract US voters from domestic issues.
