US President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly offered the directorship of the National Economic Council, a White House position, to Goldman Sachs executive Gary Cohn.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Trump selected Cohn, currently Goldman Sachs’ president and chief operating officer, to head the council, according to NBC News.

Cohn has led Goldman since 2006 and was previously co-head of the investment bank’s global business securities division.

The National Economic Council was established in 1993 to advise the president on domestic and international policy, specifically through coordination of policymaking and monitoring implementation of the president's economic agenda.
