WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Michigan Republican Party and Michigan Attorney General's office successfully argued before Goldsmith that a state appellate court had already decided the issue and he should halt the recount he had approved two days earlier, the Detroit Free Press said on Wednesday.
The Michigan Court of Appeals had earlier ruled that Green Party candidate Jill Stein had no standing to seek a recount because she has no chance of winning and was not one of the aggrieved parties.
She is expected to appeal against Goldsmith’s latest ruling in another bid to revive the recount.
Stein launched a donor-backed campaign for recounts in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin last month after allegations of electoral fraud.
