Pentagon Weak in Resolving Business-Support Problems Internally, Auditor Reports
02:00 GMT 08.12.2016 (Updated: 18:38 GMT 19.10.2022) The Department of Defense needs to improve oversight of offices within the Pentagon that run the business side of the US armed forces, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) stated in a report.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – According to the report, the department’s approach to business transformation that was designated as high-risk in 2005, still falls short of resolving business-support problems.
“Defense Department continues to confront management weaknesses related to its business functions that support US military forces."
7 December 2016, 19:15 GMT
The GAO, which functions as an internal auditor of federal government agencies, asserted that the Defense Department hasn’t coordinated with its component offices on strategic planning, and chief management officers don’t have a defined role in developing goals.
Without improved monitoring across the Pentagon, the department may not be positioned to assess the overall impact of its business-transformation efforts, the report cautioned.
