Northrop Grumman and six other companies won a $15 million contract to provide engineering services for the Navy’s AEGIS missile defense weapon system, the Department of Defense announced on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The manufacturer was awarded a $15 million contract for engineering and logistics services for the Air Dominance Department of Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division, the Pentagon said in a press release.

Services will include engineering, test and evaluation (T&E), interoperability, technical, computer programming, materials management, and specified logistics services necessary to support AEGIS Combat System and other major weapon systems programs, the release stated.

The support services will be provided at shore sites, land based test facilities, shipyards, and aboard ships in ports and at sea for the US Navy and for the governments of Norway, South Korea, Spain, Bahrain, Italy, Australia and Japan  under the Foreign Military Sales program, according to the release.

Work on the contract is expected to be completed by January 2018, the release added.
