US President Barack Obama and his family have lit the National Christmas Tree at the White House.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – "After eight years as your President I still believe that there is so much more that unites us then divides us," Obama said at the Thursday night Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

Barack was joined by his wife Michelle Obama and their daughter Sasha on Thursday.

This is the last time that Obama is taking part in the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election on November 8 by gaining an electoral vote lead over Clinton, will be inaugurated as US president on January 20, 2017.
