The Dems. said if you didn't vote Obama you were racist!! Don't like Hillary you are a sexist is what Obama said this time. Yet when she ran for office the Dems were the sexist who painted her as a dumb woman that surely couldn't do a man's job. I remember just like yesterday the way they treated her as a bimbo when she was 100 times better than Hillary.

michael, She was forced to resign as the governor of Alaska for corruption. Now Trump intends to unleash her on we veterans. But she probably can't make the VA worse than it already is.

Randall or maybe she's to be the 'interference' (playing for) trump as in a football game? :) As far as the VA is concerned, I've not heard of (m)anything(s) positive, although I am sure that the medical and therapeutic staff are dedicated. :)

michael, The currant head of the VA whom she would be replacing is, get this, a former official of Goldman-Sachs the international bank. That of and by itself explains a lot.

However, the problems with the VA go back to its very beginnings just after WW2. It isn't that they are no competent and dedicated people that work there. The problem is that it is run like a for profit business by the bureaucratic component of it. That is they receive tax payer money which they try in every way possible to avoid spending on the veterans, and they instead channel it into big salaries for the bureaucrats who run it.

There are many veterans who have died due to them refusing to provide them with medical treatment. It is not inconceivable that I should one day be numbered amongst them. The treatment that one does receive is often sub-standard I know from experience. Which is mainly the fault of the bureaucracy.

Trump is going to vastly expand the Defense (actually aggression) Budget. But mark my words, not much of the money is going to be spent on taking care of the veterans once they use them up. Most of the money is going to go to the defense contractors and their cohorts amongst the military brass. Most of the rest will be stolen by bureaucrats.

Many people like to forget that Trump himself is an oligarch and like all oligarchs he will always favor moneyed, especially banking, interests. He is not going to be overly concerned for the human wreckage that are left behind by Americas endless wars, even if some of them are former US military cannon fodder.

Randall, sad to read...and it does seem to be the lot of veterans almost anywhere. May you stay healthy to not ever need to go the VA hospital. For me, what stands out is the bureaucrats and contractors (for the most part, with obvious exceptions) are the ones that have never served. There's a lesson there of a sort I think. :)

michael, American Presidents have traditionally used the position of head of the VA to reward individuals who helped them get elected. Patronage, is the term for that practice. In that regard Trump is neither any netter or any worse than the others. Nor would Clinton have been any different.

In my opinion the position should be restricted to former members of the medical services of the various services who have personal experience dealing with preferably combat casualties. I think you know where I am going with this. This would help to ensure a certain empathy for the patients that isn't often in evidence now.
