Giuliani is reportedly one of the two candidates Trump is considering for the top diplomat role. The other candidate is ex-governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney, who was a vocal critic of the now president-elect during the presidential race.
According to the Washington Post newspaper, after stepping down as the New York mayor, in 2002, Giuliani was paid $4.3 million to consult for the Mexico City’s authorities, then led by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who is likely to run for Mexican president on an anti-Trump campaign in 2018.
During the election campaign, Trump said he would take the United States out of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) free trade zone with Mexico and Canada, as well as impose tariffs on imports from China and Mexico. He also pledged to build a wall on the border with Mexico and make the neighboring country pay for it.
