Trump adviser Dan Scavino said that Donald Trump and leading air-conditioning manufacturer Carrier have reached an agreement that will keep 1,000 jobs in the state of Indiana.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US President-elect Donald Trump and leading air-conditioning manufacturer Carrier have reached an agreement that will keep 1,000 jobs in the state of Indiana, Trump adviser Dan Scavino said in a statement.

“Carrier will keep close to 1,000 jobs in the United States of America,” Scavino wrote in a Twitter post Tuesday evening.

Trump had been trying to persuade executives at Carrier, a division of industrial conglomerate United Technologies, not to relocate operations of their Indianapolis plant to Mexico.

Carrier’s relocation plan became a flashpoint in the presidential campaign, with Trump arguing it showed that badly negotiated trade agreements encourage US manufacturers to offshore jobs to other countries.

Carrier said in a statement on its Twitter account that it was pleased to announce it had reached a deal with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who is currently the governor of Indiana, to keep the jobs in the state. The company added that further details would be forthcoming.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a person familiar with the deal, reported Tuesday that Carrier will receive new incentives from the US government in return for preserving the Indiana jobs.

Last week, Trump announced that Ford Motor Co. agreed not to shift production of one of its car models to Mexico.
