Unsuccessful Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has sent nearly $3.5 million in hastily raised funding to finance a recount of the votes cast in the state of Wisconsin in the November 8 election, the Wisconsin Elections Commission announced via Twitter.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "Wire transfer of $3,499,689 from Dr. Jill Stein has arrived at Wisconsin Elections Commission," the Commission tweeted on Tuesday.

Last week, Stein launched a multimillion dollar crowdfunding campaign to finance recounts in the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which Trump won by narrow margins.

The Green Party officially requested a recount in Wisconsin on Saturday.

The Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has joined the recount effort.

The release noted that Stein has raised $6.5 million of its $7 million goal to cover recount costs.
