The US Green Party’s presidential candidate Jill Stein is demanding to recount by hand all ballots cast in three battleground states, after what she told Sputnik was a "hack-riddled" election.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In her address, Stein said that the recount should begin as soon as possible.

"We have to move really fast in order to basically verify the vote and be confident our votes were actually counted, that they weren't flipped or stripped and that we have a system of elections we can believe in…. Right now we’re under a very tight deadline. If we want to know what our votes actually were we have to file, starting on Friday, first in Wisconsin – and then Michigan and Pennsylvania will follow very quickly next week," she said.

EXCLUSIVE: Jill Stein Tells Sputnik About Vote Recount Campaign
Stein is leading a crowdfunded multimillion-dollar campaign for recount, although she said it was "an outrage" that she had to go to extraordinary lengths to verify the vote.

"This is really a mockery of democracy. It’s one of many incredible vulnerabilities of our democracy and our elections," she said, citing the purging of voter rolls and "the forcing of two candidates down our throats."

She stressed that a voting system US citizens could believe in was fundamental to the nation’s democracy, especially after a presidential vote where 25 percent of people voted on "hack-friendly" electronic machines that have no paper record.

US President-elect Donald Trump won in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, but the race in Michigan is still too close to call even though the election was held more than two weeks ago. Stein did not receive more than 1.5 percent of the vote in any of the three states.
