WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Haley was picked for position by Trump on Wednesday.
"There remain a number of concerns about her suitability for the role of US ambassador to the United Nations," Singh stated on Wednesday. "Foremost is the fact that Gov. Haley has almost no foreign policy experience."
Singh explained that Haley has also supported "anti-voter laws in South Carolina and taken positions against refugee resettlement," adding that such policies do not align with the democratic and humanitarian ideals of the United Nations.
In 2015, Haley asked the State Department not to resettle Syrian refugees in South Carolina, citing "discredited claims about the security of the vetting process," Singh noted.
US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team announced the appointment earlier on Wednesday, praising Haley's "proven track record of bringing people together."
If confirmed by the US Senate, Singh said he hoped Haley would uphold the US commitment to international cooperation, honor the Paris Agreement on climate change and promote human rights and the rule of law.
