Raw emotions from a bitterly fought presidential campaign will not heal overnight, but Americans now have a chance to restore bonds of trust, US President-elect Donald Trump said in a Thanksgiving Day message.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Emotions are raw and will not heal overnight, Trump acknowledged as he repeated pledges to change Washington and restore prosperity to the nation, including its inner cities.

"It is my prayer, that on this Thanksgiving, we begin to heal our divisions and move forward as one country, strengthened by a shared purpose and very, very common resolve," Trump said in video posted on the Internet on Wednesday.

Trump quoted President Abraham Lincoln’s proclamation establishing Thanksgiving as a national holiday as the Civil War raged in 1863, calling on Americans to speak with "one voice and one heart."
