WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Engel congratulated Haley, governor of the US state of South Carolina and a Republican, on the announcement of her nomination, and offered any assistance she might need to make her work successful.

"I hope that President-elect Trump will resolve concerns about his overseas business interests so that Governor Haley's responsibilities and work to advance our national security are not overshadowed," Engel stated in a press release on Wednesday.

Haley represents the best of the United States because she is the child of immigrants, Engel added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump announced the nomination of Haley for the position US Ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley’s nomination needs to be confirmed by the US Senate.
