WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier, Nikki Haley, who advocates for stricter immigration laws and a ban on abortions, accepted an offer of President-elect Donald Trump to become next US ambassador to the United Nations.
"Governor Haley has a proven track record of bringing people together regardless of background or party affiliation," Trump stated. "She will be a great leader representing us on the world stage."
Haley will succeed the current US envoy, Samantha Power, who has held the post since 2013.
Trump’s transition team announced the appointment earlier on Wednesday, praising Haley's "proven track record of bringing people together."
Haley said she will continue to serve as governor until the Senate confirms her nomination.
