    General Atomics Wins Over $39Mln Contract to Upgrade MQ-9 Reaper Drones

    General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has received a $39.7 million US Air Force contract to upgrade MQ-9 Reaper Extended Range drones, the US Department of Defense announced.

    WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The company will provide fabrication, delivery and installation of MQ-9 Extended Range retrofit kits, the Defense Department said.

    "General Atomics Aeronautical Systems [of] Poway, California, has been awarded a $39.7 million modification… contract for MQ-9 Reaper Extended Range additional procurement effort," the announcement stated on Monday.

    The MQ-9 Reaper drone has seen extensive service in the Middle East. Capable of carrying four AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and two guided bombs, it has been widely used throughout the region and has inflicted thousands of casualties.
