According to the CNN broadcaster, the ex-mayor will not serve as state secretary under the Republican presidency of Donald Trump as his worldwide legal work may provoke a conflict of interests.
The former mayor's law company Bracewell & Giuliani was allegedly lobbying on behalf of Venezuela's state-owned state oil company, the broadcaster said.
The experts from Giuliani’s law company work worldwide, making contracts and earning dozens of millions of dollars, according to the broadcaster. For example, they helped cut crime in Mexico and consulted Ukraninan politicians’ election campaigns.
Giuliani, a former prosecutor who was praised for experience as the New York City mayor in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, has little foreign policy experience. However, he was a top adviser during Trump's presidential campaign.
Former US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton has been named by local media as a likely candidate for the secretary of state in the Trump administration.
