WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A US trade delegation led by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has landed nine deals for beef and pork exports to China, the Nebraska government website announced.
"[The] trade mission to China, Hong Kong, and Macau led to the signing of nine agreements to bolster markets for Nebraska beef and pork," the release stated on Tuesday.
The release noted that this mission came after a recent announcement by Chinese officials about their plans to reopen the US-China beef commerce.
In 2003, the Chinese government placed a ban on American meat after an outbreak of a mad-cow disease in the United States.
The restrictions were lifted in September of 2016, but beef exports must follow requirements under China’s quarantine systems.
According to the release, Hong Kong was Nebraska’s sixth largest export market in 2015 with a total of $234 million in goods purchased from the state.
