WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Priebus, whom Trump has selected to be his White House chief of staff, acknowledged citizens’ constitutional right to exercise free speech but said protesters had no reason to be frustrated before Trump "walks into the Oval Office” as president on January 20.
"Let him govern. Let him make you proud of our country. Give him a shot," Priebus told MSNBC, addressing demonstrators.
Protests have taken place daily in several US cities since Trump’s victory early Wednesday against Democrat Hillary Clinton. Although Trump received 290 electoral votes to Clinton’s 232, she won the popular vote by more than 200,000 ballots with as many as 7 million still to be counted, many in strongly Democratic states such as California.
Demonstrators, whose protests have largely been peaceful, have said they took to the streets out of concerns over Trump's campaign rhetoric targeting immigrants, women, Muslims, and other groups.
