MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, protesters used projectiles "such as road flares and bottles" against police officers.
"71 people were arrested during Saturday night's protest in Downtown Portland after failing to obey numerous lawful orders to vacate city streets," the statement issued on Sunday read.
On Sunday night, about 100 demonstrators continued their protests in the city, however no arrests were made there as the march was peaceful and did not affect traffic, police said on Twitter.
Protests in Portland have been ongoing since Wednesday when the Republican politician emerged as the winner in the US election, triumphing over Hillary Clinton, who was his Democratic rival, and was considered a favorite by many pollsters and analysts.
