Russian specialists would carry out an observance flight over the territories of the United States under the Open Skies Treaty on November 14-19, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Nuclear Risk Reduction Center said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The flight will be carried out from Monday untill Friday from the Travis Air Force Base, located in the US state of California, Sergei Ryzhkov said.

"Within the framework of the Treaty on Open Skies a group of Russian inspectors is planning to carry out an observation flight on an Tu-154M LK-1 aircraft over the United States," he said.

Ryzhkov added that this flight would be the 38th one conducted by the Russian specialists over the territories of the Treaty member states in 2016.

The Treaty on Open Skies was signed in March 1992 and became one of the major confidence-building measures in Europe after the Cold War. It entered into force on January 1, 2002.
