WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Hensarling, who currently serves as chairman of the House of Representatives' Financial Services Committee, is not pursuing the position but would discuss it with Trump if asked, he told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published Thursday.
In June, Hensarling proposed a bill that would weaken the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reforms championed by President Barack Obama.
Hensarling's bill would have eliminated the so-called Volcker rule, a provision to prevent US banks from being designated "too big to fail" and thus subject to taxpayer-funded rescues.
Earlier Thursday, CNBC reported that Trump’s advisers have also considered JP Morgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon to head the Department of the Treasury.
