Donald Trump gave a speech at his HQ in New York after gaining 276 electoral votes out of 270 required to be declared the new US president.

US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has arrived at his campaign headquarters in New York City on early Wednesday morning, where he is expected to address the nation.

Addressing his supporters, Trump said that his counterpart Hillary Clinton has fought hard. He also confirmed that she congratulated him on victory.

Donald Trump then pledged that "every single American will have an opportunity to realize his or her potential."

He promised to rebuild US infrastructure, put millions of people to work and "renew the American dream."

"No dream is too big," Trump said.

He then promised to always put US interest first and to "get along well" with all nations willing to get along with the US.

“We will get along with all nations willing to get along with us. We expect to have great great relationships … I want to tell the would always put America’s interests first, we will deal fairly with everyone – all people and all other nations,” Trump said, addressing his supporters in the New York City.

He added that Washington would seek “common ground, not hostility” and “partnership, not conflict.”

He then thanked this family for "incredible support" throughout the presidential run.

Donald Trump also thanked US secret service staff and law enforcement for their help as he was speaking to his supporters after declaring victory in the US presidential elections.

"They are fantastic people, so I want to thank the secret service… And law enforcement in New York City… these are spectacular people, sometimes underappreciated, unfortunately. But we appreciate them," Trump said.

Saying that this election has been a historic moment, Trump said that "to be truly historic, we must do a great job."

Concluding, Trump hinted that he does not rule out staying in office for 8 years.
