West Coast Starts Casting Ballots for US President

Voters in California and other western US states began casting ballots for president and other political offices as of 10 a.m. EST (15:00 GMT) on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In addition to California, the most populous state, polls also opened in Idaho and Nevada. They are to be followed by Alaska at 11 a.m. and Hawaii at noon EST.

Elsewhere in the country, the first polls are scheduled to close in Indiana and Kentucky at 6 p.m. EST, with initial election results expected to start arriving soon after.

The last scheduled poll closings are in western Alaska, at 1 a.m. EST on Wednesday.

Voters in the United States on Tuesday are electing the nation’s 45th president, all 438 members of the House of Representatives, one-third of the Senate’s 100 seats, legislators in 44 states, governors in 12 states, and a host of local officials.
