WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The research group identified Florida as the US state with the most early ballots cast, at 6.4 million, through a combination of votes either mailed in or presented in person at special polling sites.

More than 4 million residents of California and 4.5 million people in Texas also chose the option of voting ahead of Tuesday’s elections for president, Congress, and various state and local offices.

US citizens are allowed to vote early without having to provide a written excuse, such as illness or hardship, in 37 states and in Washington, DC.
