MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Interventions by the United States sometimes have negative consequences that lead to even more problems, US President Barack Obama said.

"Bad things happen around the world and our natural instinct is – we should do something. There are times where our intervention makes a difference but there are a lot of times where the unintended consequences can result in more problems when we intervene. And sorting out where those issues play out is, I think, one of the biggest challenges that any president has," Obama told the HBO TV channel on Friday.

He noted that when it came to a terror threat posed by terrorist organizations such as the Daesh or al-Qaeda, it was necessary to resort to military means.

Obama added that the United States needed allies to work on the international scene in order to maintain the international order.
