Republicans Demand US DoS Probe of ‘Quid Pro Quo’ Offer Regarding Clinton Email

The US Department of State’s inspector general should investigate a tit-for-tat deal a department official offered a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) official over the classification of one of Hillary Clinton’s emails as the secretary of state, the Republican National Committee said in a press release Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Republican National Committee demands full investigation into allegations that the State Department Undersecretary for Management engaged in negotiations to secure a ‘quid pro quo’ agreement with a FBI official to influence classification decisions of Clinton’s email.

“Yesterday the Republican National Committee (RNC) sent the following letter to the State Department’s Inspector General demanding a full investigation into allegations that State Department Undersecretary for Management Patrick Kennedy engaged in negotiations to secure a ‘quid pro quo’ agreement with a senior FBI official in order to influence classification decisions of Hillary Clinton’s email,” the press release stated.

The 2015 exchange between Kennedy and the FBI records official was among nearly 100 pages of notes and interviews made public Monday regarding the bureau’s criminal probe of Clinton’s use of a private email system during her 2009-2013 tenure as secretary of state.

The declassification requested as part of the “quid pro quo” never happened, and the email in question remained at the same security-classification level.
