US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A massive voter fraud is unfolding in the United States as first early voting results have been made public, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed on Monday.

"Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day. Why do Republican leaders deny what is going on? So naive!" Trump said in a Twitter message.

On Sunday, US media reported that early voting results show Democrats outpacing their 2012 performance in a number of key swing states, including North Carolina and Florida.

Trump has long been claiming that the 2016 presidential election would be "rigged."

His running mate, vice presidential candidate Mike Pence, tried to downplay the businessman’s statements on Sunday. Pence suggested that Trump’s claims of rigged election referred to a biased news media coverage, and not the electoral process itself.
