The United States is providing an additional $364 million in aid to refugees in Syria, US Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Anne Richard said in a briefing on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Later this week the United States will have admitted 85,000 refugees, including 12,500 from Syria thereby exceeding its fiscal years 2016 goal of 10,000.

"Today, I am proud to announce that the United States is providing more than $364 million in additional lifesaving humanitarian assistance for those affected by the war in Syria," Richard stated.

On September 20, world leaders at a UN summit announced that they sought to increase aid for refugees by $3 billion while doubling the number of those resettled.
