MOSCOW (Sputnik) US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton maintained an edge over Republican opponent Donald Trump, by scoring a six-point lead among likely voters, a poll carried out by The Wall Street Journal and NBC News revealed Thursday.

Clinton led Trump by 43 percent to 37, the survey showed.

Two factors contributed to that, one was because Trump's scored poorly among college-educated white voters who took some of his comments on women, immigrants and Muslims as negative. Secondly, Democratic President Barack Obama job-approval ratings has been high and that landed in her favor, the poll indicated.

However, the poll revealed that Clinton might face one hurdle, and that would be failing to attract the votes of African-American and Hispanic voters as President Barack Obama did in 2012.

The survey was conducted between September 16 and 19.
