Daesh attacks outside Iraq and Syria could increase in the short term, CIA Director John Brennan said in an interview published on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Brennan said he can’t remember a time when the United States faced so many complex and dangerous threats.

"I think ISIS [Daesh]’s capability to carry out attacks outside of the Syria-Iraq theater will continue and could increase in the short-term," Brennan told CBS News.

On Sunday, the group claimed responsibility for an attack carried out by Dahir Adan, a 22-year old Somali-American man who stabbed eight people inside a mall in the US state of Minnesota the previous night.

Daesh, a terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and many other nations, has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in the United States and across Europe over the past year.
