The United States extends for another year the national emergency which came into effect after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, President Barack Obama announced in a notice to Congress on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama underscored that "the crisis constituted by the grave acts of terrorism… has not been resolved."

"I am continuing for one year the national emergency with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit or support terrorism," Obama stated in the notice.

The US government signed the original national emergency announcement on September 23, 2001, after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC that killed more than 3,000 people.
