The Attorney General for the state of New York says he is looking into the Trump Foundation, which is the charity run by US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Attorney General for the state of New York Eric Schneiderman said in an interview that he is looking into the Donald J. Trump Foundation, which is the charity run by US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

"We have been looking into the Trump Foundation to make sure it's complying with the laws governing charities in New York," Schneiderman told CNN on Tuesday.

Schneiderman explained he is a regulator of non-profits in the state and his interest has been aroused because of concerns the Trump Foundation "may have engaged in some impropriety from that point of view."

Earlier on Tuesday, Democrats on the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee sent a letter to US Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking her to investigate the Trump Foundation.

The congressmen noted they were concerned about a payment Trump made to a political organization supporting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi shortly before her office decided not to join a lawsuit against Trump University.
