WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Chicago police officers executed African-American teenager Paul O'Neal in a July shooting, the O’Neals’ family lawyer Michael Oppenheimer stated on Friday after watching a newly-release video of the incident.
"We just came from watching Chicago police officers execute Paul O’Neal," Oppenheimer stated as quoted by the New York Times. "These police officers decided to play judge, jury and executioner."
On July 28, Chicago police officers fatally shot 18-year-old O'Neal after he tried to run away from a car that was reportedly stolen.
Following the incident, Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson said three officers involved in the teen's death violated existing regulations.
Earlier on Friday, the Chicago authorities released a video of the fatal encounter. The footage shows officers shooting at a sports car and later chasing the suspect after the vehicle crashed. The policemen are heard claiming that the teenager shot at them.
