WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Young, a 13-year veteran of the Washington, DC Metro Transit police, was arrested for attempting to send mobile messaging cards overseas for use by Daesh fighters, the Washington Post reported.

Daesh terrorist group, outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries throughout the world, has seized vast areas in Iraq and Syria, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. The radical Sunni group has become notorious for its human rights atrocities, such as public beheadings of foreign journalists.

Daesh and its affiliates have claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks carried out in various parts of the world, including the July 14 Nice attack and the the March 22 Brussels attacks.

The officer, who was arrested without incident by US federal agents and local police on Wednesday morning, will be brought to a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia's office said.
