NEW YORK (Sputnik) – Trump previously said he supports fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, a process in which liquid is injected into wells at high pressure to break up rock formations that tend to clog underground reservoirs of oil and natural gas. Environmental groups have repeatedly warned that chemical residues left over from fracking contaminate underground supplies of drinking water.
Moreover, Trump has previously said that of the alternative sources of energy, solar power is too expensive to utilize, and windmills used to generate wind energy kill hundreds of eagles.
"Excessive regulation is costing our country as much as $2 trillion a year, and we will end it. We are going to lift the restrictions on the production of American energy," Trump said.
The lifting of restrictions, which Trump referred to as "the greatest job-killers of them all," will produce more than $20 trillion in job creating economic activity over the next four decades, the presidential nominee added.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has advocated for either a reduction or a complete ban on fracking.
