The 2016 US Republican National Convention to nominate Donald Trump will be a change of pace from past conventions and will focus on the personal life of the candidate, Trump's campaign manager and top aide Paul Manafort said on Sunday.

CLEVELAND (Sputnik) — The plan for the convention is “to help the American people understand more about Donald Trump the man… his career, his personal life, his philanthropic life,” Manafort told journalists.

Manafort’s comments explain the unconventional list of speakers expected to take the stage in Cleveland this week, including celebrities, business leaders, and members of Trump’s own family.

“It will be a different kind of convention. We are not going to have the traditional wall to wall speakers from Washington [DC],” Manafort said.

The Republican convention kicks off on Monday, with the nominating process beginning on Tuesday evening.

Among the speakers expected to take the stage on the opening day include the candidate’s wife, Melania Trump, the mother of Sean Smith, a US officer killed in the 2012 Benghazi attacks, US Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, and others.
