Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has selected Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate, Trump said in a Twitter message on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Pence was first elected Governor of the US state of Indiana in 2013. He also served in the US House of Representatives from 2001-2013.

"I am pleased to announce that I have chosen Governor Mike Pence as my Vice Presidential running mate," Trump tweeted.

Trump also noted that he and Governor Pence will hold a joint news conference at 11 a.m. EST (3 p.m. GMT) on Saturday.

During the Republican primary, Pence endorsed one of Trump’s former opponents US Senator Ted Cruz.
