Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they received a call about a man with a gun on 1st & C St. NW, near the Department of Labor. Capitol Police tell Sputnik that three suspects were taken into custody and police confirm that a machine gun was found on the scene. One officer claims gunshots were fired as suspects attempted to escape police custody.

Lawmakers were barricaded inside and told to lock all doors, though they were told by police that they could take the complex's underground tunnels back to their offices. People inside were warned to stay away from exterior windows and doors.

A similar incident occurred last Friday, when the US Capitol Building and visitor center were placed on lockdown after a woman was spotted with what appeared to be a firearm.
