The US Democrats may push for new and stricter gun control bill after the recent deadly shooting in the nightclub in Orlando, a member of the French National Assembly's Defense Committee told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova — On Sunday, a 29-year old shooter opened fire in the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 people and injuring at least 53 others.

"The democrats could ask either to ban sales of assault weapon or to limit sales of military-style weapon but the Americans are unlikely to give up this right entirely as it will be seen as an attack against their civil rights," Nicolas Dhuicq said.

Trump, Clinton Spark Debate Over Cause of Orlando Shooting
The proposals to ban or limit the sales of assault weapons have become an issue of political debates during the presidential race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump believes that the problem lies with massive immigration, and calls for reduction of Muslim people coming to the United States from war-torn countries and conflict zones. Hillary Clinton has called for stricter gun control, including an assault-weapons ban, following the Orlando shooting.
