US Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders refused to give up on his presidential bid despite the leading positions of Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic nomination.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier this week, Clinton succeeded to secure necessary number of delegates, including both pledged ones and superdelegates, to win her party's presidential nomination, according to media reports.

Bernie Sanders vs. US Democrats: ‘He Is Refusing to Get Stomped All Over’

"I am pretty good in arithmetic and I know that the fight in front of us is a very very steep fight. But we will continue to fight for every vote and every delegate," Sanders said Tuesday in address to California voters.

"Our fight is to transform this country and to understand that we are in this together, to understand that what we believe is what the majority of American people believe, and to understand that the struggle continues," Sanders added.

The candidate added that he suspects that the gap in support for him and Clinton "will significantly diminish." He thanked voters of North Dakota, where he is projected to win, for their support, and said that his campaign was also likely to win in Montana.

"Thank you all, the struggle continues," the senator said.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 8, 2016.
