Associate professor William Klug, 39, was one of the two people left dead after a shooting at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), The Los Angeles Times reports citing multiple sources.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has confirmed that the Wednesday shooting left two people dead and was a likely a homicide and a suicide.

The Los Angeles Times said on Wednesday that while the shooter has not been identified, his victim was identified by several sources as associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering William S. Klung.

Klug was a father of two and was described as an exceptionally kind man by his students, according to the newspaper.

The Wednesday shooting took place inside UCLA’s engineering complex in a small office. The gunman, who allegedly committed suicide after shooting Klug, has not been identified and the motive for the shooting remains unknown.

The UCLA campus was locked down on Wednesday as police feared there was an active shooter situation on the university grounds. Students were reportedly blocking the classroom doors with chairs, overhead projectors and other items as the doors did not have locks.

Classes at UCLA were canceled for the day, but will resume on Thursday.
