The newspaper said that Trump left the area at about 04:30 pm local time (23:30 GMT) on Friday, but hundreds of his opponents remained in downtown San Diego, continuing protesting after his speech, despite police orders to leave.
On Friday, Hillary Clinton, the Democratic rival of the presumptive Republican nominee, told a San Jose crowd that the United States has a duty to other nations, that look to America as a beacon of strength and stability, to defeat Trump.
