Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump is closing the gap nationally with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, an NBC News/Survey Monkey poll revealed on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Clinton is still competing with rival Bernie Sanders to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for the US presidency. The poll shows Clinton ahead of Sanders nationally by 14 points. These two candidates are competing in primaries in the US states of Kentucky and Oregon on Tuesday.

"In this week’s poll, Americans are nearly split between their choice of Trump or Clinton; her margin over Trump narrows from 5 points last week to 3 points this week to 48 percent to 45 percent," the poll stated.

Donald Trump will receive his party’s official nomination at its National Convention this July in Cleveland, Ohio.

Results from the poll have a margin of error of 1.2 percentage points.
