WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the daesh carried out 25 airstrikes on Sunday in Iraq and Syria, including near the city of Palmyra, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted nine strikes using ground-attack, attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against Daesh [Islamic State] targets," the statement said on Monday.
Iraqi towns, including Fallujah, Hit, Mosul and Sinjar, and destroyed multiple Daesh-assembly areas, fighting positions, six tunnel entrances, two bridges as well as a number of vehicles.
In Iraq, coalition forces carried out 16 airstrikes near nine cities, including the Daesh stronghold of Mosul.
The US-led coalition of nearly 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State first in Iraq and later Syria since the summer of 2014.
The Daesh is a designated terror group that is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries. It is a terrorist organization prohibited in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
