Sikh Man Falsely Arrested, Accused of Being Terrorist Goes After Accusers

A Sikh man was falsely arrested in February after being accused of making a bomb threat aboard a Greyhound bus passing through Amarillo, Texas, en route to Indianapolis, and now he wants charges to be filed against those involved.

Daljeet Singh, 30, has filed a formal request to Potter County prosecutors that they bring criminal charges against the bus passenger who allegedly made the false report, as well as two other passengers who restrained him.

Singh and Mohammed Chotri, who is Pakistani, were sitting together when another passenger, Tianna Lynn Decamp, told the bus driver that they heard one of the men say the word “bomb.” The bus driver then called 911 and pulled over on the side of the highway.

Both of the men were arrested for making a terrorist threat and brought to Potter County Jail.

“Singh wore a beard and a traditional Sikh turban at the time of the incident. In a statement, Singh said he had been speaking Punjabi while on the bus,” Amarillo.com reported.

Both men were soon cleared and released, but nobody has been held responsible for the false claim against them.

“The only crime I committed was wearing a turban, having a beard and speaking in a different language to another brown man on a bus,” Singh said in a statement.

Working with Singh on the claim is the New York-based civil rights group The Sikh Coalition, who believes that Decamp should be charged with the crime of false alarm or report, and that the men who restrained him until law enforcement arrived, Anthony Lamar Lillie and Kelly Michael Morris, should be charged with unlawful restraint.

Potter County Attorney Scott Brumley has reportedly received the complaint and will be reviewing the incident.
