Republican frontrunner Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday that he believes Senator Bernie Sanders should run as an Independent.

Trump has made it a point to compare himself, and his struggle with the  Republican Party establishment, to the challenges Senator Sanders faces within the Democratic Party, suggesting that they are both treated unfairly.

“Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats—both with delegates & otherwise,” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “He should show them, and run as an Independent!”

Following the tweet, Jane Sanders, the candidate’s wife, was interviewed on television, stating that her husband will not “play the role of spoiler,” running as an Independent.

Candidate Sanders, who was an Independent in the Senate, also asserted that he will continue to run as a Democrat.

On Sunday, he spoke out about his unfair treatment at the hands of  the Democratic Party establishment.

"So it sounds like the party, though, you feel like it's been fair to you?" the interviewer asked Sanders. The candidate greeted the slights with a shrug.

"No. I think we have — look, we're taking on the establishment. That's pretty clear," the Senator responded. "The fact that we had debates that were scheduled — pretty clearly, to my mind — at a time when there would be minimal viewing audience, et cetera, et cetera. But you know, that's the way it is. We knew we were taking on the establishment. And here we are. So not complaining."

Tuesday’s tweet is not the first time Trump has mentioned the unfair treatment of Sanders. Earlier this month he said, “week after week — he wins, he wins, he wins, he wins — then I watch you and I watch all of the pundits and they say ‘but he can’t win.’ You know why? It’s stacked against him. It really is. It’s stacked against him. In his case it’s super delegates, in my case it’s the obvious.”

Trump has also previously hinted at the possibility of his own Independent run, and, if Sanders did the same, the four-way race would be unprecedented in the history of American politics.

Sanders has just been exposed. He has no intention of disrupting the establishment. His wife just documented it very clearly. He'll go to the point of actually making a difference and then pull back. That's exactly the feeling I get about Sanders, much like Ron Paul.

      Do it, Bernie.

      jas, Exactly.
Sanders is fake oppostion. When the campaign starts, he'll order his followers to vote for Hillary. It's the plan since the beginning.

      Crusich.... joined at the Lip.

Two can play that game. The voters are not that stupid. What’s good for the gander is good for the goose.

The RNC/GOP are flirting with their own demise. Both the Dems and Repugs will rue the day when Trump and Bernie get fed up with their transparent childish games and run as a power duo independent ticket. That fire has already been lit and will spread fast as these silly games go on.

Trumps dead right. Sanders would be better served running as an independent as would Trump himself I think.

That said unless the interference in the voting process is stopped and those responsible identified and appropriately punished it may make little difference.

This may be an election for the US decided by lawyers as much as the US public. Its a disgrace too in a supposedly democratic country.

I think Sanders would not be a spoiler running as an independently. His supporters have made it clear they don't want an establishment candidate. If anything he'd be doing the cause of democracy as favour by giving people who want change a voice.

seanrkearney, I think the GOP situation is similar. I am NOT voting for Cruz or Paul Ryan or any other candidate of Team Freak neocons.

seanrkearney, I transitioned in stages. I think most people do. The evil empire cabal depends on manipulating the inexperienced. The problem these days is that time is limited and the cabal can't wait long enough for the new (unaware) generation to come along.

They are using the same tricks over and over and not allowing enough to to pass before they do the same thing and claim it is not planned, and people are catching on faster. I don't just suspect that the US government is murdering people, abetting terrorists and torturing people and violating all sorts of international laws, I know they are doing it. Their other problem is that the Internet age increased the populations memory and access to information. So keyword and date searches can help reveal events such as false flags.

It's like with Hollande's election problem. I knew something was going to explode as soon as I read that article. I think the attack happened in less than a week.

The American people have woken up to the fact that the corrupt regime will stop at nothing to win and stay in power. The good thing is those that are corrupt are beginning to show themselves. They don't even care about exposing themselves now. As long as these low lives continue to expose themselves , the American public will now be able to play their cards against them.

jas, no, you're wrong about Ron Paul. He received credible DEATH THREATS aimed at his family and he dropped out of the race because of that. He was leading at the time. They don't threaten the losers, just the winners they don't like. The establishment went on to see to it that Rand never even got in the race. IF there was ever anybody they FEAR worse than Trump -- it was Ron Paul.

michael, I too wonder how that would work, If they announced working together to fix the USA, would their bases combine? If they did -- it would be earth shattering! It would be the stuff if legends...it would be THE END of the NWO. They couldn't even win by assassinating the president - because the VP would be just as bad for them! They'd only have ONE shot and it wouldn't be enough.

We could only DREAM such a fantastic thing.

Now we will find out about Bernie, for real.
If he is loyal to America or to the Democratic Party.
Hillary is a monster, and everyone knows it..
Bernie! Priority #1 ... Destroy All Monsters!

Ann, it reminds me of what an American once told me; that originally, the president was the winner from one party and the VP was the losing candidate. I always thought that was interesting. :)
