WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Although US law does not require the country’s president or vice president to publicly release their tax information, most have done so since the 1970s.
"The president and the first lady [Michelle Obama] filed their income tax returns jointly and reported adjusted gross income of $436,065," the statement said on Friday. "The Obamas paid $81,472 in total tax.

The Obamas reported donating $64,066 to 34 different charities, including $9,066 to the Fisher House Foundation, which provides free or low cost lodging to US military veterans and their families.
The US vice president and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, reported earning $392,233 and paid $91,546 amounting to an effective tax rate of 23.3 percent. They reported charitable donations totaling $6,620 for the year.
On Thursday, Democratic party presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders sparred over the latter’s tax returns during a primary debate. Clinton called on Sanders to release his tax information, which he pledged to do beginning on Friday.
