Earlier this month, reports emerged that Lewandowski had assaulted former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields at a March 8 press conference. The reporter alleged that Lewandowski grabbed her arm when she attempted to ask Trump a question at the end of his press conference.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A campaign manager of Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has been charged by Florida police with misdemeanor and battery after he allegedly forcefully grabbed a reporter, local media reported on Tuesday citing police.

"Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump campaign manager, was charged this morning with misdemeanor battery after allegations of forcefully grabbing a reporter at a Jupiter news conference, town police confirmed this morning," the Palm Beach Post reported.

The newspaper reported that Lewandowski turned himself in to Jupiter, Florida police early this morning and said that surveillance footage captured at Trump National also corroborated the reporter’s allegations.

Throughout his 2016 bid for US presidency, the New York real estate tycoon and billionaire has come under sharp criticism for his controversial statements about women, Muslims and immigrants to the United States.
